Armenia has direct air connection with a number of countries of the world. International flights to Amsterdam, Athens, Beirut, Dubai, Prague, Sochi, St. Petersburg, Munich, Istanbul, London, Minsk, Moscow, Odessa, Paris, Tehran, Vienna, numerous cities of CIS, operate from/to the well-equipped International Airport “Zvartnots” (outside Yerevan) and Airport “Shirak” in Gyumri. There are overland road routes and rail links, connecting Armenia with the neighboring countries (through Georgia to the Black Sea ports of Batoumi and Poti, as well as through Iran to the Persian Gulf). Armenia's borders with Turkey and Azerbaijan are closed due to the dispute over the status of the Nagorno-Karabakh (i.e. political situation). With the exception of a few major arteries, roads are frequently in poor repair. Subway, buses, trolley buses, minivans and taxicabs are the basic means of public transportation in Armenia. Car rental is also available.
